Download Skooh Desktop App

The easiest way to forward webhooks to your local machine. One-click setup, no configuration required.

⚠️ Unsigned Binary

The app is currently unsigned. You may see security warnings—this is normal.See installation instructions →

Installation Instructions

⚠️ Security Warnings

Your operating system may show security warnings when installing Skooh. This is normal and safe—the app is open source and available on GitHub.

Why you might see warnings: Skooh is a relatively new application, and some security software uses heuristic analysis that can flag legitimate apps that make network connections. We're implementing code signing to improve reputation, but newer apps often need time to build trust. Follow the instructions below to install.

macOS Installation

  1. Download the .dmg file from the download button above
  2. Open the DMG and drag Skooh.app to your Applications folder
  3. Try to open Skooh.app from Applications
  4. macOS will show a security warning saying the app cannot be opened

Allow the app in Security Settings:

  1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS)
  2. Go to Privacy & Security (or Security & Privacy)
  3. Scroll down to find a message about Skooh being blocked
  4. Click "Allow Anyway" or "Open Anyway"
  5. Enter your administrator password when prompted
  6. Try opening Skooh.app again—it should now launch successfully

Windows Installation

  1. Download the .exe installer from the download button above
  2. Run the installer (Skooh-Setup.exe)
  3. Follow the installation wizard
  4. Launch Skooh from the Start Menu

If Windows SmartScreen blocks the installer:

  1. When you see "Windows protected your PC", click "More info"
  2. Click "Run anyway" (this button appears after clicking "More info")
  3. The installer should now proceed normally

If Windows Defender quarantines the app:

Windows Defender may incorrectly flag Skooh as a threat (false positive). This can happen because:

  • Skooh is a relatively new application and hasn't built up reputation yet
  • Heuristic analysis flags apps that make network connections (which Skooh does to forward webhooks)
  • Newer apps often need time to establish trust with security vendors

To restore the app:

  1. Open Windows Security (search for it in Start Menu)
  2. Go to Virus & threat protection
  3. Click "Protection history" or "Threat history"
  4. Find the Skooh entry and click "Actions"
  5. Select "Restore" to restore the file
  6. If prompted, click "Allow on device"

About security scans (VirusTotal, etc.):

If you scan Skooh.exe on VirusTotal or similar services, you may see a few false positive detections (typically 2-5 out of 70+ vendors). This is common for:

  • Newer applications: Skooh is a relatively new app and hasn't built up reputation with all security vendors yet
  • Network-aware apps: Applications that make outbound network connections (which Skooh does to forward webhooks) can trigger heuristic detection
  • Behavioral analysis: Some antivirus software flags apps based on behavior patterns, not just signatures

The vast majority of security vendors (typically 95%+) will show it as clean. Skooh is open source and available on GitHub—you can review the code yourself.

Note: We're implementing code signing to improve reputation, but newer apps often need time to build trust. These are false positives—the app only makes outbound HTTPS connections to Skooh's servers, never receives inbound connections or modifies your system.

What we're doing to reduce false positives:

We're actively working to improve Skooh's reputation with security vendors:

  • Code signing: Implementing Azure Trusted Signing (Windows) and Apple Developer certificates (macOS) to improve reputation
  • Microsoft submission: Submitting signed builds to Microsoft Security Intelligence portal for whitelisting
  • Vendor outreach: Contacting antivirus vendors directly to request whitelisting
  • Reputation building: As more legitimate users install the app, reputation improves over time
  • Technical mitigations: Implementing delays and Windows Firewall registration to reduce heuristic triggers

For enterprise users: If your organization's antivirus is blocking Skooh, contact your IT team to add an exclusion. The app only makes outbound HTTPS connections to Skooh's servers—no inbound connections or system modifications.

Prevent future false positives:

To prevent Windows Defender from blocking Skooh in the future:

  1. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection
  2. Scroll down and click "Manage settings" under Virus & threat protection settings
  3. Scroll to "Exclusions" and click "Add or remove exclusions"
  4. Click "Add an exclusion" → "Folder"
  5. Navigate to and select C:\Program Files (x86)\Skooh

New to Skooh?

Follow our step-by-step quick start guide to receive your first webhook in under 5 minutes.

Generating an API Key

The desktop app requires an API key to authenticate with Skooh. Only team owners can create API keys.

Steps to create an API key:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Scroll down to the API Keys section
  3. Click Create API Key
  4. Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Desktop App - MacBook")
  5. Copy the generated key – you can view it again anytime from the Settings page
Tip: A default API key is automatically created when you sign up. You can view and copy it from Settings → API Keys anytime.

Configuration

The desktop app needs three pieces of information to work:

Hook Token

The unique identifier for your webhook endpoint. Find this in the Hooks dashboard after creating an endpoint.

API Key

Your personal API key for authentication. Create one in Settings → API Keys.

Forwarding URL

The local URL where webhooks should be forwarded. This is typically your development server, e.g., http://localhost:3000/api/webhook

Troubleshooting

Connection fails

  • Verify your API key is correct and hasn't expired
  • Check that your Hook Token matches an active endpoint
  • Ensure your forwarding URL is accessible (try opening it in a browser)
  • Check your firewall isn't blocking the connection

Webhooks not arriving

  • Verify the app shows "Connected" status
  • Check the Hooks dashboard to see if webhooks are being received
  • Ensure your local server is running and accepting requests
  • Check the app's log viewer for error messages

Log-Only Mode (Debugging)

Sometimes you just want to see what webhooks are coming in without forwarding them anywhere. This is useful for debugging, inspecting payloads, or when you're first setting up an integration.

To enable log-only mode:

  1. Leave the Forwarding URL field empty
  2. Click Connect as usual
  3. Watch incoming webhooks in the Logs tab
Pro tip: Enable "Sound" in Advanced settings to get an audio alert when webhooks arrive – perfect for debugging webhook integrations without constantly watching the screen!

Advanced Settings

The Advanced tab contains settings most users won't need to change:

Connection

  • API URL: The Skooh API endpoint (default: https://api.skooh.io)

WebSocket Replay

  • Max Replay Messages: Number of missed webhooks to replay on reconnect
  • Replay Delay: Delay in ms between replayed webhooks

Behavior

  • Enable Notifications: Show system notifications for webhooks
  • Enable Sound: Play sound when webhooks arrive
  • Verbose Logging: Enable detailed debug logs for troubleshooting

Logs & Debugging

The Logs tab shows real-time activity and helps you debug issues:

  • Connection events: See when you connect/disconnect
  • Webhook arrivals: View incoming webhooks and their payloads
  • Forwarding status: See if webhooks were successfully forwarded
  • Errors: Debug connection or forwarding issues
Tip: Enable "Verbose Logging" in Advanced settings to see detailed request/response information for troubleshooting.

System Tray Features

The Skooh desktop app runs in your system tray for easy access:

  • Green icon: Connected and forwarding webhooks
  • Red icon: Disconnected
  • Click the icon to see status, connect/disconnect, or open settings
  • Notifications: Get alerts when webhooks arrive (can be disabled)
  • Sound effects: Audio feedback for webhook events (can be disabled)
